Hello and happy Independent Bookshop Week!

The first thing I want to say is that I had no idea it was Independent Book Week and that this post beyond the paywall is largely made up of lists that obliquely express my fury about this (10 Books I Would Have Treated Myself To If I’d Known About This Perfect Excuse for Doing So, and so on), and a few other sundry items. The phrase “sundry items” has just popped up from my subconscious all of a sudden, after years of interment and I am delighted to have it back! Expect to see it OFTEN until the novelty wears off (for me, which may be some time after it has done so for you. Apologies).

As I don’t have an appropriate picture, have one of the hummingbird hawk moth that visited me this week:

What news before we head behind the curtain? (Which you can draw back anytime, incidentally, by becoming a paid subscriber via the button below)

Good News!

Netflix has launched a new “Watch Your Favourite Books” hub for book adaptations. Excellently, I cannot find any way of accessing it other than typing in “Netflix.com/books” every goddamn time, but maybe you are not so stupid and will fare better. I am without my IT department at the moment (my son is on a school trip) so I await his input next week.

Practical News!

I hope you have all survived this rogue week of winter in June. I am always happy to have a return to cold weather, especially since a friend recommended that I buy this:

Comes in different colours - I’m sure you get it

We have been together two years now, and our relationship has been life-changing. I bought a cheaper one as back up, and can thoroughly recommend that you don’t do that. It was dismal. This is the one – or at least the level – you want. And it will save you a fortune over the long term.

(This is not an ad or an affiliate link, by the way. Just an attempt to keep us all from freezing.)

I have had a semi-week off work to get on with writing my book so I made bread. In a breadmaker, a supposedly foolproof method. This leaden object is the result, confirming to me that everywhere is metaphor *deletes last 3000 words from draft*

Come and see me at Penzance Literary Festival!

Come and see me at Barkway Literary Festival!

Listen to me talk about books with JR Jamison on American radio here!

Or here!

And please do share, like, follow, free-subscribe or paid-subscribe to The Bookwormery so that we can all immerse ourselves in the world of books for longer instead of going out and dealing with the real world. Because who needs it, babez? Who needs it?

Happy reading, especially in IBW!

Love,

Lucy
